Understated Elegance in Bloom: Meredith & Tim’s Autumn Wedding on Kiawah Island
When Meredith first reached out to me at Palmetto Bloom, she had a clear vision: a fall wedding on Kiawah Island filled with soft color, Southern charm, and understated elegance. What unfolded was a beautifully intentional celebration that felt as warm and genuine as the couple themselves—and I’m honored to have been part of it.

A Love Story Rooted in Meaning
Meredith and Tim met in Chicago in March 2020, just as the world began to shut down. The challenges of the early pandemic brought them closer, and after three and a half years together, Tim proposed during a dreamy Labor Day weekend trip to Napa Valley. The proposal took place at Domaine Carneros, a romantic vineyard known for its sparkling wines. Meredith describes it as “absolutely perfect”—complete with toasts among the vines and one-on-one time soaking in the moment.
Why Kiawah Island?
While the couple lives in Chicago, Kiawah Island holds deep personal meaning. Tim’s parents have lived there for over 25 years, and the couple spent time working remotely from the island during the pandemic. It became their peaceful retreat, making it the perfect setting to celebrate their wedding with family and friends. They chose The River Course on Kiawah Island—a venue with sweeping Lowcountry views that speak for themselves.
Designing a Wedding That Felt Like “Meredith”
From the beginning, Meredith knew she didn’t want an all-white wedding. She wanted florals that reflected the rich, warm tones of a Southern autumn—soft pinks, golden yellows, muted oranges, and organic greenery. Our first conversation was effortless. Meredith shared her vision, and I created mock-ups that helped her see how her color palette could come to life with elegance and ease.
As she put it, “The moment I saw the mix of soft, warm pinks, golden yellows, and subtle oranges… I knew it was exactly what I had been dreaming of.”
We carried that palette through every floral moment of the day—from her bridal bouquet to the reception tables, where sprigs of rosemary sat next to personalized menus. The rosemary was Meredith’s idea, and I loved adding that touch of texture and meaning to each place setting.
A Ceremony Framed by Freestanding Arches
Meredith had always loved the idea of an arch at the ceremony—a statement piece that framed the moment without overpowering it. Together, we landed on a design featuring two freestanding arches, lush with autumnal blooms. Not only did they create a stunning focal point for the vows, but we later repurposed them behind the sweetheart table for the reception—a floral moment that felt fresh, romantic, and entirely “them.”

A First Dance That Spoke Volumes
Personal touches made this wedding unforgettable. One of the most moving moments came during the first dance, when Meredith and Tim invited their parents to join them. With both families celebrating decades-long marriages, the dance became a quiet tribute to love that lasts.
Reflections on the Floral Experience
Before working together, Meredith’s biggest concern was finding a Charleston wedding florist who could strike the balance she envisioned: colorful but refined, bold yet elegant. As she told me later, “You understood my vision instantly and made everything feel seamless.”
Hearing that from a client is the highest compliment. My goal with every wedding is to create a floral experience that reflects the couple’s story, style, and setting—and to make the process easy, joyful, and collaborative.
The End Result? A Wedding That Felt Like Home
Guests raved about the florals, but the best feedback came from Meredith’s friends and family, who said the wedding “felt like Meredith.” That’s the magic I strive for: florals that don’t just look beautiful, but feel deeply personal.

“It wasn’t just about flowers; it was about creating an atmosphere that reflected our love and the significance of the day.” —Meredith
